A saintly woman said, many hundreds of years ago, that Christ
had no other hands but our own, no other mouth but our own, no other feet
but our own. We believe Christ has called us to continue his ministry
in this world. One of our spiritual ancestors, Menno Simons, described
it this way in 1539: "True evangelical faith cannot lie dormant, it clothes
the naked, it feeds the hungry, it comforts the sorrowful, it shelters
the destitute, it serves those that harm it, it binds up that which is
wounded, it has become all things to all men." Nearly 500 years later,
we continue to take seriously these words. Jesus has called us to be active
in the world, seeking to reconcile it to the dream God has for all creation.
